About the Charles Bridge Museum

We opened the Charles Bridge Museum festively on June 15, 2007 to mark the anniversary of 650 years since the laying of the bridge’s foundation stone. The ceremonial opening was attended by the Czech First lady Livia Klausová, the mayor of the Capital City of Prague, Pavel Bém, MD, and the 47th Grand Master of the Order of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star P. Mgr. Jiří Kopejsko, O.Cr. The Museum was opened to public on June 17, 2007 from 10 am. The Museum was put in business under the auspices of significant guests, who were present at its ceremonial opening, and with the support of the Capital City of Prague.
The Museum is situated in the close vicinity of the Old Town end of the Charles Bridge, behind the back of the Charles IV statue, as if it to complement the two and the tradition that pays respects to the Father of the Land. Despite the fact that it lies on the Royal Mile, at the Křížovnické náměstí Square and thus in the middle of the tourist interest route, in our exhibition concept, we focus on mainly on the Prague and Czech visitor. We also try and instruct school children from the whole of the Czech Republic.
The Museum also seats a Café and a shop. In the Café, there are public readings of the recent Czech literati and we create the background for the Czech and German Literary House that has been introduced by Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German Minister of Foreign Affairs.

In its activities, the Museum connects, in a way, to the public education tours through the Prague Venice which was also the main idea which lead on to the idea of opening the Charles Bridge Museum.

The Museum’s motto is: A BRIDGE TO THE HISTORY OF OLD PRAGUE
